Dr. Amarnath Chamkur is a board-certified pediatrician with specialized training in neonatology and perinatology, serving families at Sunrise Pediatrics in Houston/Cypress, Texas. With over 20 years of experience in neonatal intensive care and general pediatrics, he is known for his clinical excellence, leadership, and compassionate care.
A graduate of medical school in India, Dr. Chamkur completed his pediatric residency at Nassau University Medical Center in New York and a fellowship in Neonatology & Perinatology at Lutheran General Children’s Hospital in Illinois.
He has a special focus on newborns, toddlers, and children with special needs, including those with Down syndrome, ADHD, autism, and chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes. Dr. Chamkur is also highly experienced in a range of procedures and preventive care, offering same-day appointments and a proactive, personalized approach to child wellness.
Dr. Chamkur holds privileges at several leading hospital systems—including HCA, Methodist, OakBend, and Memorial—where he has served in key leadership roles such as Neonatal Medical Director and Chief of Pediatrics.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Chamkur is a passionate advocate for pediatric innovation and serves as a Principal Investigator in clinical research. He strongly believes that advancing pediatric medicine through research is essential to improving outcomes for all children, especially premature infants.
